Ayuntamiento de Constantina

Monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

Descripción

It is a diocesan work, built in 1954, when Father Félix was the parish priest of our town and the driving force behind the work. It formed part of the programme designed in his day by the former Cardinal of Seville, Pedro Segura y Sáez, whose eagerness to promote devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus had led him in the dioceses through which he had passed to erect monuments in its honour, such as the one built in the Sevillian town of San Juan de Aznalfarache or that of the Cerro de la Virgen de la Montaña, in Cáceres.

It is located next to the castle, in a strategic place as its height, together with that of the construction itself (16 metres in total height, with the height of the image being 5 metres), completely dominates the whole town and shows Christ blessing the people.

Below the monument there is a small chapel where masses were once held to venerate him.
