Ayuntamiento de Constantina

Ruinas de la Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Hiedra

Descripción

A work of great interest, although unfortunately only the exterior enclosure remains, including a doorway which, according to tradition, belonged to the now disappeared convent of San Francisco, and which corresponds to a simple Renaissance design attributed to Hernán Ruiz II himself, who was involved in the design of the parish tower.

It is dated on one of its spandrels in 1570. The belfry is also preserved, which is curious for its asymmetrical layout. However, of its internal structure, only very deteriorated fragments of its walls remain. It is currently in complete ruins.

It is located on the outskirts of the village, and has several access routes, duly signposted. It can be reached via the recently restored Sendero del Chorrillo (Chorrillo Path), and you can take the opportunity to contemplate the old Fuente del Chorrillo, which must have been of great importance to the village in its day, given the size of its construction, although nowadays it only has water if the rainfall has been particularly abundant.
