Be inspired on your trip with the heritage route of Constantina and all it has to offer for an unprecedented cultural visit. You can’t leave the city without getting to know all its history through its real protagonists. These strategic points will give you a true glimpse of its history and culture.

Constantina is a city rich in culture thanks to the passage of different civilisations. Its streets lend themselves to a visit full of emotion, with fascinating stories on every corner. Its architecture still recalls the Muslim legacy in the region, which is why many of the buildings have been declared of Cultural Interest.

Places not to be missed on the Constantina Heritage Route

To make your visit complete, we would like to highlight the sites that form part of the heritage route of Constantina that you will not want to miss. Mainly, the area of the Castle, “Las Cuestas” and “La Morería”, sites that maintain the traditional Muslim construction and its culture to this day.

Take note and plan the ideal route for you with this tour of the most important religious and cultural heritage of the region. Also, bear in mind that free sightseeing tours are often organised by the town hall – an opportunity to take advantage of!

Barrio of The Morería

During your tour around the neighbourhood, you will be able to visit the streets of the historic centre, which, in this region, feature constructions from the 15th and 18th centuries. You will also come into contact with industrial and commercial buildings that were key in their time for agriculture, winemaking, timber and livestock farming. The architecture features stately homes with central courtyards and beautiful neoclassical façades. You will see first-hand what life was like for the most powerful landowners in the region and some of the working elements that are still preserved.

The Castillo

One of the oldest and most impressive constructions in the region, making it an obligatory stop on your trip. In times of Arab occupation, it served as a defence for the Osa Valley due to its height and strategic position. A large part of its original extension remains standing, which gives you an insight into what it was like. During your visit, you will be able to see its seven towers, the parade grounds, the water cistern, original vaults and more. Everything is in a great state of preservation so that you can relive the historic moments, thanks to the extensive reconstruction work. You will also enjoy privileged views of the whole region.

Cloister of the Old Convent of El Tardón

A former convent dedicated to the infirmary of the Basilian monks. It is in Tuscan style with beautiful arches, columns, courtyards and galleries. Today it is dedicated to the housing of the locals, but it is a place to visit and reminisce about its past.

Ermita de Nuestra Señora of Robledo

It is an eye-catching building, especially because of its various architectural styles. It is extremely interesting for those who enjoy reconstructing history, since important people have passed through it. In addition to its simple but harmonious construction, you can see murals, a dome and plaques commemorating the concession of King Carlos IV for the fair; the legend of the shepherd Melchor and the image of the Patron Saint of the hermitage, where she is still worshipped.

The Pozos of theNieve

Hostelry-Monastery of Our Lady of the Angels "La Carlina".

The last of the places I would like to highlight is this guesthouse that holds a great history. It has passed through several owners, which is why it has undergone important changes that give it an unmissable cultural charge.

Here, you can enjoy the fantastic urban and natural landscapes, which earned it the representative nickname of “Castillo Blanco” (White Castle). You will also discover cultural elements of great impact:

What remains of its gardens that used to contain fourteen fountains.
Works of art.
Walls from the original construction.
The Roman mosaic of the map of Belgium, the nationality of one of its owners.
The façade of the church where the new monastery is located.
The White Tower, symbol of the village and its bells “Hope” and “Peace”.
The church with its imposing image of the crucified Christ and the organ pipes.
The stone table with relics of the Holy Martyrs of San Roman.

On the other hand, the environment is surrounded by the Sierra Norte park, with beautiful hills, holm oaks and more natural charms. A truly complete place, with nature, culture, history and faith in harmony.
