Ayuntamiento de Constantina

Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Robledo

Descripción

Located 2 kilometres from the town centre on the road towards Las Navas de la Concepción (A-3001), taking the crossroads towards the Military Base.

It is a construction carried out in several stages. Its most primitive part is of the Mudejar style, with three naves, separated by pointed arches framed by an alfiz and a presbytery covered by a half-orange dome decorated with mural paintings. At the beginning of the 18th century, a transformation was made to the chancel, which at the end of the same century was finally transformed into the current chapel with decoration typical of the late Sevillian Baroque style.

It is a harmonious building topped with a simple belfry, above which the final lantern of the chapel stands out, where the image is located under a silver shrine and at the base of which an oak trunk can be seen, the tree from which it receives its name and on which legend has it that it appeared to the shepherd Melchior and from which it receives its name.

On the porch, on a plaque, you can see the concession given by King Charles IV in 1792 granting the privilege to organise a fair in that place on the 16th, 17th and 18th of August every year.

The collapse of a considerable part of the roof made it necessary to carry out major renovation work on the roofs, after which it now has a new look.

On the first Saturday in August and after the corresponding novena, the image of the Patron Saint is taken to the village, where it remains to be worshipped until the last Saturday in September, when it returns to its hermitage in a pilgrimage.
